The Team
Alissa Mundt!
Some things are just meant to be.
I am so grateful to have ended up at the Denver Green School. My path wasn't the most direct route, but it paved the way and lead me to DGS.
After teaching for five years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and at Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences, here in Denver, I left teaching. I spent a year traveling, volunteering, and learning Spanish in South and Central America. When I returned to the states, I started law school at the University of Denver. Through my travels and through my time working in educational policy and on dependency and neglect cases, I found myself always drawn to education. If I were working on a case, I would visit the child at school or immediately help them with their homework on our visits. I tutored 2nd graders in Nicaragua for 6 months, even though my plan had been to just travel for a year. I just couldn't stay away. Fortunately, as I was preparing to graduate law school and take the bar exam, I met Sarah Tucker (former DGS literacy teacher) and Kartal Jaquette at a career fair. I immediately fell in love with DGS. I knew that if I were to return to the classroom, this is where I was going to make it happen and I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to teach here.
I am back in grad school again this year (I just can't get enough!) to get my Administrative license, so when I'm not working on grad school work or teaching, you'll most likely find me on my bike, on my yoga mat, in the mountains, or reading a book.

Allen Potter!Talk about a charmed life: I am a founding partner at the best school in Denver! The students, families, staff and community at Denver Green School are absolutely incredible. How did I get to be a math teacher in such an ideal environment?..
After bouncing around the country as a boy (Illinois, Arizona, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio), I settled into the Denver area when I was 10 years old. I wanted to be a schoolteacher from an early age, and I studied at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) with that goal in mind. After internships in Kansas City, I took a detour all the way to Strasbourg, France, where I spent nearly three years teaching English. It was there that I learned French and Spanish and really broadened my understanding of other cultures and histories. When that chapter came to a close, I returned to Denver, and I've been teaching in DPS ever since. DGS is a school that does so much more than teaching the basics. We created this school because we wanted to show that a great school could prepare students for a bright future and empower them to create it. I'm so gratified to be a part of DGS! My main teaching responsibility is 6th grade math, and I'm super-excited to be working with Ms Mundt on the 6th grade team. It's going to be a fantastic school year! Outside of school, you'll find me cooking and enjoying a great meal at home (I love to cook!), working in the garden, or out riding my bike. And I go back to France just as often as I can... |
